Living by the sea and loving by the moon, Tejiana Sky is a traveller and mama based on the island of Maui, living in tropical paradise with her hubby and their bronzed baby beach girl Amara. As part of our ‘Where Is Your Paradise Found’ Travel Series, Children of the Tribe spoke to Tejiana about life in Hawaii; she shares her tips for families travelling to Maui, the best places to eat and other family-friendly hidden gems. Enjoy x

Who’s in your tribe?

Our tribe runs deep, but at home it’s just Mars, Mumma and Dada.

What do you love most about the place you call home?

Endless beauty that surrounds no matter where you are or what your doing. Ordinary daily tasks become so pleasant, simply because so much magic surrounds you constantly.

Describe a dream day on Maui for you and your family?

It definitely would begin with an extra hour or so of rest. Hubby would cook a delicious breakfast, and we’d sit to eat as a family. Then we would head out on some sort of escapade… beach time or a waterfall perhaps. I love to end the day with a picnic at a favourite grassy lookout watching the sunset, followed by a yummy dinner, bubble bath, and bedtime snuggles with my angel.

Share your Top 3 Tips for families travelling to Maui

  1. Explore! There is so much to see beyond the resorts and real touristy areas, so to not be afraid to get out of your comfort zone, and adventure!
  1. Visit Hana and for more than just the day. It’s quite the excursion but truly one of the most beautiful places on earth.
  1. We’ve got some of the greatest beaches. Hamoa in Hana is my absolute fav but there are so gems on West Maui as well. Wherever you find yourself I recommend packing a lunch, bringing some shade, and spending the day in our warm crystal clear waters.

Favourite family-friendly place to eat?

I love Cafe Des Ami in the town of Paia, also Mama’s Fish House is the best for date night.

Any hidden family-friendly gems we should know about?

I can’t give out too many secrets, but I would definitely recommend watching the sunrise or sunset at Haleakala crater. It’s magnificent.

What is your dream holiday destination?

I love the idea of packing up my family and traveling through Europe or South East Asia, anywhere culture rich, that’s my next goal.

What is one thing you hope Amara takes away from her very special upbringing?

To look at life with playful eyes, and to connect deeply with nature, to know she is one with all the life, magic and beauty that surrounds her.
