As founder of online vintage store Bohème Goods, Sarah Shabacon is a passionate believer in sharing her love of vintage with people all over the world. She treasure-hunts coveted vintage pieces, and gives them new life, allowing others to own a little piece of history. She’s also a mama to two boys, and together with her husband, they are raising their family in British Columbia, Canada. We spoke to Sarah about her inspiration, her favourite finds and raising her boys in such a beautiful part of the world.
You founded Boheme Goods one year ago. What was your inspiration?
I grew up preferring thrift shops over malls and found myself spending my free time after having children thrifting and visiting antique shops. On a whim I decided to start Bohème whilst running my old label and realized it was exactly what I needed in my life. The motto of Live,Wear,Raise Bohème isn't just words but a way of life to me and I'm so happy I can share this lifestyle with customers all over the world.
How would you describe your personal style?
A mix of old and new. The majority of my most worn pieces are vintage and I pair them with higher end designers that really focus on producing beautiful and ethically made clothing and footwear. Less is more.
Three of your all-time favourite vintage finds?
An Afghan Coat from the 1960's
Hanging basket chair from the 1970's
Rattan Rocking Horse for my boys
How would you describe your little tribe?
We're very adventurous and try to live a life within our means all while respecting the earth. On weekends you'll find us in the mountains or at a lake 6 hours away. We live for new experiences with one another.
What do you love most about raising your boys in British Columbia?
We can be in the mountains, the ocean, or the desert in a matter of hours. There is so much natural beauty here and we pack our bags and go every chance we get to see somewhere new. We feel very grateful to live where we do and try to teach our boys that not everywhere in the world is as safe and accepting as Canada so they have to carry that sense of love wherever they go.
Has your love of treasure hunting resulted in pieces that take pride of place in your home?
Oh definitely, most of my favourite pieces in our home were originally intended to be listed in the shop but ended up staying. We just redid our flooring and Ryan has totally asked me why we have wood floors if there are so many rugs throughout the house. That's my love of antique turkish rugs right there. It's always very hard for me to part with a rug because each one has its own history, and sometimes a story woven right into it.
Who inspires you?
I'm inspired by the game changers of the world. Those who stand up and speak up for what’s right. There are so many beautiful humans doing this every single day and I'm inspired by them all!
