Having been on the Forest to Beach ride at sunset with Zephyr Horses, when it came to choosing a location for our ‘Adventure Is Calling’ campaign shoot, we knew this unique coastal ranch in the sub-tropical woodlands of Tyagarah Nature Reserve would be a somewhere that the kids in the campaign could really feel what it is that this collection represents:
"life in the wild, where horses run free and
children spend their days full of wonder
exploring their surroundings"
The Zephyr Horses team create soul charging, adventure packed moments and it's easy to fall in love with one of their twenty horses. If you haven't experienced one of their rides through the forest trails and along Byron’s iconic Belongil Beach (the ranch is located just behind the sand dunes north of Byron Bay) then believe us when we say, it just something you've just got to do.
Founder Kate grew up with horses from a very young age and, in establishing Zephyr Horses in 2015, she wanted to be able to offer the same experiences she had growing up. All of the group rides are suitable for beginner riders aged 8+, with pony rides for younger riders. And there is a fortnightly pony club with a holistic approach where the kids not only get to ride, but also learn about equipment, grooming, technique, horse behaviour and movement, and horsemanship.
With tree swings, camp-fires, horse-rides and a quaint little shack in the wild, we had ourselves the ideal shoot location. Like on all of our shoots, we encourage kids to really be themselves and play, but on this day, the kids were in for something pretty special...
As Lily (8) was leading one of the horses, the kids and crew were completely stopped in their tracks as they heard the sound of thundering hooves. Two horses (we later found out they were sisters) were galloping at full speed, running completely free along one of the trails before having a splash and a swim in the water. The kids were completely blown away as they watched on and it was an amazing moment to see their awe as they witnessed first hand these majestic animals playing in nature.
