As the mama behind blog ‘This Little Wandering’ Colorado mum-of-two Kayla describes her tribe as wanderers, dreamers and explorers. Documenting the visual journey of their life, and raising their daughters Jessamyn 2 and newborn Ophelia, Kayla took some time out to share a few words with Children of the Tribe about home, joy, beauty and her favourite place to wander.

My favourite place to wander would have to be...
There is a state park about an hour away from the town my husband and I met in that is literally the most beautiful and peaceful place I have ever been. Every memory I have there involves cold fresh air, crackling fires, and some sort of encounter with nature. As a kid my parents would take us camping at this state park and now as an adult my husband and I have gone several times together and even once with Jessamyn. There is something about sitting out in nature, no cell phone service, under the stars that is just completely magical. I have traveled all over the world but honestly this spot in the mountains of Colorado will always be my favorite place to wander and the place I come back to again and again.

My home is...
My people, my husband Ben and our two daughters. Having owned two different houses, moved to several cities, and even spent a while living and traveling in a converted school, home has never been a place for me. Home is that familiar feeling and comfort that comes when I am with my people. There is nothing more home-like than exploring and the four of us just being together and I am confident no matter where we go in life it will always be that way.

I find joy in...
A hot cup of tea, a foggy morning, cuddling with my babies… a really long run. The list could go on and on but I think I find the most joy in the little moments I can savour each day.

Being a mum is...
The hardest thing I have ever done but also the most beautiful. Being a mum is completely exhausting and trying in so many ways but also so incredibly wonderful and intense and just beautiful.

I view Instagram as...
A way to share the beauty and hard things I see in life. Photography in general and the moments I share online are, in many ways, a visual journal of things as I choose to see them. I definitely wouldn’t say it is every moment of my life but it is the ones I want to remember and share and there is something beautiful about having a space to do that.

Beauty is...
Fragile, powerful, and worth noticing. If I teach my daughters anything I hope I can teach them to notice the beauty around them and see beauty in the world.

My daughters...
Are the craziest and most amazing people I have ever helped create… seriously though there is nothing like seeing your own facial expression mimicked back to you or watching this tiny amazing person learn something new. They are more than I could have ever imagined or hoped for in daughters and I am so completely in love with them and couldn’t imagine life without them.
