We’ve always been enchanted by the island of Hawaii, maybe it's the endless sun-kissed days on the beach or enjoying local tropical fruit picked straight from the tree, but one thing’s for sure, the Hawaiian mamas are living a dreamy kind of life. Hailing from the North Shore, first-time mum Britnee Kent is embracing the pristine natural beauty of her island home. We spoke to this new mama about advocating for a healthy lifestyle, the most surprising thing about becoming a mum to baby Krew and sharing her motherhood journey with close friends.
What has been the biggest surprise about becoming a mum?
The biggest surprise about becoming a mama has been how obsessed I would be with this little guy! I might be biased, but he’s pretty much the cutest little dude and his hair has such a personality. I think I underestimated how much I would love him and how I would do anything in the world for him.
What’s it been like to share your motherhood journey alongside friends who have also become new mamas?
Having my best friends also have babies around the same time has been the BIGGEST blessing. I feel so lucky to have gone through pregnancy, and being a new mom with them! I live next door to one of my best friends and being able to work out with the babies playing, or call each other when we need to borrow something, or even just need a moment alone is the best!
I was able to have some of my best friends by my side during labor to cheer me on and that was an amazing experience. I know it doesn’t happen like this all the time and it probably won’t happen exactly like this again, so I feel very blessed!
Having lived on the North Shore of Oahu for so long (even creating your own digital travel guides for Maui and Oahu) what is it that you love most about life on the island?
We love so many things about living in Hawaii. I could go on and on! The sun, being able to go to the beach everyday, living in a swimsuit, the tropical fresh fruit growing on our trees, it’s the best!
One thing that I love about the island life is that materialistic things are not important; what car you drive, the clothes you wear, how much money you have, none of it matters. I love that my kids will have a full playground in their backyard and don’t need electronics. Being outdoors and exploring is all they need!
Andnow that you’re a trio how do you, Connor and little Krew like to spend a typical day together?
In the morning Connor goes to work just right around the corner, and I do a workout while Krew naps. Connor comes home for breakfast, and then I hang with Krew for the day and work while Connor is away. Once he is off of work, we head to the beach to surf, swim, hike, or watch the sunset.
You are a big advocate for a healthy lifestyle, can you tell us your number one tip for leading a healthy and happy life?
My number one tip for leading a happy and healthy lifestyle is consistency! Consistency is key in almost anything in your life, but especially nutrition and fitness. If you are exercising every day, no matter how hard, you are going to see improvement. The same with eating clean, you don’t have to be perfect, just consistent.
Your committed to only eating foods that make you feel great, but you’re also a self-confessed sweet tooth. What was your go-to guilt-free treat this summer?
My go-to healthy sweet treat this summer was chunky monkey popsicles. Blend 2 frozen bananas, 1 tbsp cacao powder, 1 cup almond milk, and a dash of honey. Pour into popsicle moulds and freeze for after the pool or beach! Soooo good :)
