Thanks to social media, the main bonus of what we do is working with other mamas around the globe. Through Instagram, this great big world doesn’t seem so vast, rather a community of genuine, loving mamas all doing their part to raise the worlds next generation. Our relationship with one in particular all started with a tag – then comment – then e-mail and many of chats about motherhood, our roots, a bit about hopes and dreams for what is to come for our precious little ones. It is with great honour to introduce to you one special lady who we now call- friend…

Kirsten Rickert‘s compassion, love for life and enthusiasm was so real through our very first conversation. She is soft, kind hearted and an inspiration to many. Amongst these qualities, she is also a stay-at-home mum of two beautiful girls. In the early days of motherhood, she home-birthed, baby-wore, breast-fed, co-sleept and now she home-schools her girls, Kirsten “really identifies with this role as an essential part of her (my) existence”. She’s a passionate environmentalist, eloquent writer and brilliant photographer who is constantly creating. Originally from Byron Bay, Australia, her adoring husband and her packed their bags with their first baby in tow and headed right to the heart of New York City- no plans, no job. They soon found their path and moved to New Jersey to settle into their nature cottage they bought, turned it into a home and continued living “the” simple life, one of which to many of us is only a helicon dream.

Here are words from Kirsten on life, family and just being:

“Life is a journey to be celebrated, with both ups and downs. I often choose a sunny disposition, and look at my existence, while not rich, as very privileged…

I have been blessed with two beautiful daughters, that I am raising with a kind and warm-hearted artistic man, who is my love, and my husband. I am so very grateful for family and the life we have together. Our life feels incredibly abundant, not by the things we own, but because of the love and creativity that fills our home. I am grateful also for the roof over my head, the food I eat, the water I drink and the clothes I wear…

Being honest and being able to sit with myself for who I am is very important to me. For me this is about being holistically aligned. It is about finding peace and acceptance in the form mother nature gave me, and then caring for my being in the best possible way. It is about being natural…

Since having our two daughters I have focused my energy on making a balanced life for our family and by being a good example to my children. I do this by cooking healthy food, exercising, visiting interesting diverse places and by hand making things. Whether it be sewing birthday crowns for a party for one of our girls or making Sunday morning breakfast, I try to do things with effort and integrity, making it creative and inspiring – to enjoy life to the fullest and to share with you all on her (this) Blog.”

We thank you, Kirsten for sharing your gorgeous photos and letting us celebrate your story.

xx
